FAQs
Which YETI should I buy?
Whether you have a type of ice chest in mind or are just browsing for an upcoming camping trip, youāll find something worth the investment and one thatāll last you season after season in the wild. If you're looking for a high quality durable ice cooler to keep in one place whether that be on a camping trip, day trip, the back of the truck on a hot summer day, or at home then you may look into our YETI Tundra hard coolers. If portability is important for you and you're looking for a reliable cooler you can take on the go then we recommend you check out our Silo Water Cooler, Tank, Soft Coolers or Tundra or Roadie Hard Coolers. Check out our Size Chart built to help you understand whether you need a large or smaller cooler for your needs.
Where are YETI Coolers made?
All of our products are labelled or marked with their country of origin. Some of our YETI TundraĀ® ice chests and all of our LoadOutĀ® Cargo are manufactured in the U.S. and are designated as such. You can find these products by checking their labels in stores. All customized products are produced in Austin, TX, San Antonio, TX and Monterrey, Mexico.
Are YETI Coolers worth it?
Value is subjective, but to YETI, it has always meant a superior product that will stand up to the demands of a life spent in the wild. For our YETI ice chests, this means an unfailing quality and the ability to let you stay in your favourite places longerāwithout having to worry about your ice melting or a bear going through your provisionsāwhich we think is worth every penny.
Is there a warranty?
These hard coolers come with a five-year warranty. For more details visit our Warranty Information page or contact an outfitter.
HOW DO I CLEAN MY YETI COOLER?
Clean your YETI cooler with mild dish soap and water. For tougher stains, use a mixture of water and baking soda. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Rinse with water, then thoroughly wipe the inside dry with paper towel or cloth.
HOW LONG CAN A YETI COOLER KEEP ICE?
YETI coolers can keep ice for several days, depending on the model, usage, and environmental conditions. Proper pre-cooling and minimal lid opening can maximize ice retention.
What accessories are available?
There is a wide range of accessories available to provide the best experience with your YETI cooler. We offer baskets to keep provisions and food high and dry in your cooler. Our cup caddies allow you to put your beverage down while keeping inside goods accessible. Our YETI ice packs are one of the best cooling solutions if ice isnāt available. You can still use it to add to your ice stash for maximum ice retention.
HOW TO KEEP YOUR YETI COOLER COLD FOR LONGER
Keeping your cooler cold for longer periods of time can be challenging if you donāt have adequate knowledge on how to keep it cool. Here are some useful tips that weāve found to help extend the cooling time for your YETI cooler/ice box:
- Start with a Chilled Cooler
If stored in warm places, a significant amount of ice will be wasted cooling the cooler itself. Preload your cooler a few hours prior to use with a sacrificial bag of ice to cool it down, or store it in a cool place before loading it up.
- Use Twice the Ice as Your Contents
Making sure you use enough ice in your cooler is key. We recommend following a ā ice, ā contents ratio. This means that one-third of your cooler can hold your beverages and food, while the other two-thirds should be filled with ice. The more ice you use, the longer it will last.
- Ice Temperatures Vary Significantly
Warm ice (around 32Ā°F) is typically wet or dripping and wonāt last long. Ice that is colder than the freezing point, such as from a freezer, is relatively dry and will last substantially longer.
- Block Ice vs. Cube Ice
Smaller, cubed ice will chill a cooler and the contents more quickly, but block ice melts at a much slower rate. Most pros use a mix of both to chill cold items and achieve long-term ice retention to keep their cooler cold the longest.
- Air is the Enemy
Large areas of air inside your cooler will accelerate ice-melt as the ice is consumed with having to cool the air, instead of your contents. If you do need to leave space in your cooler, they are best filled with extra ice, towels, or crumpled newspaper if weight is a concern.
- Donāt Drain the Water
Once your cooler is in use, DO NOT empty the cold water. The water helps to insulate the remaining ice. However, exposed food and beverages should be kept out of the water.
- Sunlight is a Heat Source
Keep your cooler out of direct sunlight when possible. Ice can last up to twice as long in the shade. Some pros even use tarps or towels to cover their coolers when they canāt find a shaded spot.
- Limit Cooler Access
Every time you open the cooler, you are exchanging the cold air inside for warm air outside that must then be cooled, causing faster ice-melt. A bonus tip is to utilize a few pieces of tape on the top of your cooler as a ācooler mapā to let everyone know where things are located without having to open it up and dig around.
- Dry Ice is Best (Hard Coolers and Ice Buckets Only)
The TundraĀ® and RoadieĀ® Hard Coolers and YETI TANKĀ® Ice Buckets are all dry ice compatible; however, HopperĀ® Soft Coolers are not. When used in conjunction with a YETI Hard Cooler, dry ice can keep food and drinks cold and frozen longer than regular ice.
- YETI ICE Supplement
Extend your regular ice with YETI ICE packs. YETI ICE is dialed into a temperature just below that of regular ice, letting it do all the cooling work to keep your regular ice from melting. Check out the YETI ICE Configurator to find which sizes fit best in your YETI cooler.
Bonus: How to Keep Ice from Melting in Your YETI Cooler Using Rock Salt
- Properly fill your hard or soft cooler with cans or bottles and plenty of ice.
- Generously sprinkle rock salt on top of the ice.
- Close or zip your cooler.
- Wait 30 minutes and then crack open a cold one.
With the right ice, cold items, and some well thought-out layers, youāre set. Be mindful of the ambient temperature and utilize all features of your YETI cooler to maximize ice retention.
