Being a bull rider is in Cody Teel's blood. His father was a bull rider, and after growing up hearing all of his exhilarating stories, he couldn't wait to follow in his footsteps. By the time he was 21, Cody had amassed a pile of bull-riding championship titles including two Texas High School titles, the 2011 College National Finals title, and the coveted PRCA World Champion title in 2012. Today, his success is showing no signs of slowing down, but when he's not jetting off from one state the next, you can find him enjoying well-deserved down time with his wife on their ranch.
What goes through your head when you first wake up in the morning before you bull ride?
Where's the coffee?
Where is your favourite place to bull ride?
Las Vegas.
Tell us a favourite story from a day out bull riding.
I love getting to travel for a week to different rodeos in a small personal plane. We crisscrossed from Canada to Arizona and a lot of places in between. It was something I wouldn't get to experience if it wasn't for what I do.
How do you up your game year after year?
I'm always trying to find new things I can improve on to be the best, healthiest version of myself, like working out, changing my diet, etc.
If you could do anything better, what would it be?
Upping my riding percentage. Whether you're 10% or 90% there is still room to improve.
Who are you heroes? Who do you look up to?
I gather inspiration and wisdom from several past and present bull riders.
What haven't you accomplished that you aspire to do in your lifetime?
Win PBR World Champion.
What part of you, or what you do, reflects a spirit of restlessness?
Even when I do well there's always something I feel I could do better.
If there is any love-hate relationship with any aspect of what you do, can you describe what that is?
I love everything about riding bulls but I hate to lose.
